aat kita akan mendesign atau membaca gambar pipa system, sering kali kita menjumpai kode NPS atau DN. Apa seeh maksudnya kode – kode ini dan apa kegunaannya akan coba kita bahas di sini.
NPS (Nominal Pipe Size) & DN (Nominal Diameter)
Dari standard ASME B16.5 Paragraf.1.9.2 ukuran NPS, diikuti oleh nomer tanpa dimensi (dimensionless) menunjukkan ukuran nominal flange atau sambungan (fitting) flange. NPS berhubungan dengan istilah nominal diameter (DN), yang digunakan sebagai satuan internasional (SI unit). Hubungannya seperti dibawah ini:

Untuk NPS ≥ 4, adalah kelipatan 25
Catatan:
- Bahwa DN (Nominal diameter) bukanlah out-side diameter (OD) pipa dan bukan pula konversi satuan imperial terhadap metric, seperti tampak pada contoh diatas pipa dengan NPS 4” atau 100DN adalah berdiameter luar 114.3 MM, juga kalau di konversi 4” x 25.4MM =101.6MM.
- Pengecualian untuk pipa ≥ NPS-14” (350 DN) maka OD = NPS x 25.4 mm.
- Diameter luar ditetapkan sama walaupun ketebalan berbeda pada tiap schedule.
- Diameter nominal adalah diameter yang dipilih untuk pemasangan ataupun perdagangan (commodity ).
